Get a Life!

A phrase making the rounds in today's society - Get a Life!. I don't know the origin or original meaning of this lightly tossed phrase, but I think it really has merit and is good advice! The intrinsic meaning has unfolded to me in this way.

Get your own life! Quit leaning on others for emotional, financial, philosophical support. Find out who YOU are, YOUR capabilities, YOUR uniqueness.

First of all, one must understand what life is so that we build on a firm foundation of truth. I base my thinking on the scriptures that have proven to be efficacious, writings and testimonies and observations of people who demonstrate these principles of truth in their own lives, and my personal experiences.

God is life. Life is God. God gives us life--He made man in his image and likeness (Genesis), and God knew us before we were made into a physical body (Psalm 139:16).

This opens a brand new field of speculation. If God made us and gave us to partake of His life, obviously we possess more "stuffing" than meets the eye or is known by the conscious mind. Life is an adventure--an unfolding from ignorance to knowledge, from poverty of spirit to richness in Soul, from fear of people and situations to assurance, wisdom, and inner strength. We can say with Jesus, "I have overcome the world" when we put off the "old man" and become the one who has his/her being in Christ.

This new creature has left the caterpillar state and become a butterfly, free to go and come and do according to the perfect will of the Father. We are encouraged by St. Paul to not be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). This we learn by watching our thoughts. Mary Baker Eddy says to "Stand guard at the portal of thought" -- in other words, not to allow false and destructive ideas into our mind, rather feeding it on "every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God," which can come by books, word of mouth, or inspiration.

Paul also affirms in Romans 12 that nothing can separate us from the life, wisdom, or any other God quality. Would we steal, kill, envy, fear, be addicted to destructive habits if we knew our true nature? So I urge you to GET A LIFE and enjoy it.
